Presentation Abstract

Blockchain is the distributed ledger technology that uses cryptography and network consensus to record transactions or other information that is immutable and secure.  As such blockchain technology creates an environment for trustless commerce that many believe will be transformation in the coming decades. The potential for smart contracts and commerce conducted without the need for trusted third parties may dramatically alter how business takes place in the future.  We provide an overview of blockchain and present a number of use cases.  Then we present a framework that can be used to identify how business value is achieved through blockchain technology.
