August 2026 Edition

DAMA Days early bird pricing, fall CDMP study opportunities, Responsible AI programming, and community updates from DAMA Minnesota.

From Summer Momentum to Fall Action

Dear DAMA-MN Community,

August is a turning point. Summer is still with us, but fall is already coming into focus. Schools prepare to reopen, project teams return from vacations, organizations begin planning for year-end priorities, and professional communities shift from summer rhythm to fall execution.

At DAMA-MN, that shift is especially visible this month. DAMA Days 2026 is moving from planning to promotion, the fall CDMP Study Group is preparing to launch, chapter programming continues to connect familiar governance practices to emerging AI challenges, and our volunteers, speakers, sponsors, and partners are helping us build one of the strongest fall seasons in recent chapter memory.

The theme running through all of this work is simple: trusted data depends on prepared people. Frameworks, tools, platforms, and technologies matter, but durable value is created when people understand the work, share meaning, ask better questions, and build practices that can be trusted under changing conditions.

DAMA Days 2026 is our opportunity to bring that community together — to learn, connect, and advance the profession.

Early bird member pricing is now available for a limited time.

DAMA Days 2026 Data Conference

DAMA Days 2026 | October 6–7, 2026 | Shoreview Community Center

Registration is open for DAMA Days 2026, DAMA-MN’s regional data conference focused on the people, practices, and leadership capabilities that help organizations create trusted value from data.

This year’s theme, Powering Data. Empowering People., recognizes that durable data value is created when strong practices, trusted information, modern technology, and capable people come together with shared purpose.

The complete two-day program is now available, including session times, concurrent tracks, abstracts, workshops, speaker biographies, the onsite CDMP exam opportunity, networking periods, and printable schedules.

Early bird pricing is available for DAMA-MN members. Members can register for the full conference, add a workshop, or select a workshop-only early bird option.

The Two-Day Experience: Learn, Connect, and Advance the Profession

Day One: Tuesday, October 6 is a full-day data conference symposium featuring thought leadership, practitioner stories, peer learning, professional networking, and practical discussion across the data community.

Day Two: Wednesday, October 7 begins with concurrent symposium sessions and an onsite CDMP Fundamentals exam opportunity, followed by lunch, networking, and three concurrent four-hour workshops.

Participants may choose among focused workshops on building a live data quality dashboard, communicating for executive action, and applying practical data quality techniques.

DAMA Days is built for the people who make data work.

Data governance leaders, data stewards, data quality professionals, architects, business analysts, analytics leaders, AI readiness teams, and technology and business leaders are all part of the conversation.

August Chapter Meeting: Do No Harm — Operationalizing Responsible AI

Dr. April C. Williams

Dr. April C. Williams

Our August chapter meeting, “Do No Harm, Operationalizing Responsible AI: Applying What You Already Know,” features Dr. April C. Williams.

Artificial intelligence is not new, but its widespread adoption has created new opportunities and new governance challenges. The good news is that data professionals already possess many of the skills needed to help organizations implement AI responsibly. They simply need to recognize how those skills translate into an AI-driven world.

In this practical, jargon-free session, Dr. Williams demonstrates how familiar governance concepts, including data quality, stewardship, accountability, transparency, risk management, and privacy, provide the foundation for Responsible AI.

Drawing from her books, Dr. Williams introduces the Do No Harm model and The Ethical Yardstick, practical frameworks that help organizations evaluate AI initiatives before unintended consequences occur.

Fall 2026 CDMP Study Group and Pay-If-You-Pass Exam Opportunity

The Fall 2026 Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)® Study Group is another important part of DAMA-MN’s professional development calendar. This condensed study group is designed to help participants prepare for the CDMP Fundamentals exam while building a stronger foundation in core data management disciplines.

DAMA-MN is also planning to offer an in-person Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)® exam opportunity during DAMA Days 2026. Participants may sit for the CDMP Fundamentals exam or select a specialty exam that counts toward Practitioner and Master certification paths.

Pay-If-You-Pass is a major benefit of taking the exam in person at DAMA Days.

For those taking the exam onsite, the DAMA Days CDMP exam will be offered as a Pay-If-You-Pass event. This means participants only pay the exam fee if they pass, making it a powerful reason to join the study group, prepare with the DAMA-MN community, register for DAMA Days, and take the next step toward CDMP certification.

Whether you are pursuing the Fundamentals exam, working toward Practitioner or Master certification, or simply strengthening your professional vocabulary and understanding of the DAMA-DMBOK® framework, the study group and onsite exam provide a practical, supportive, and cost-effective path forward.
