Abstract  

This discussion will be in three parts.  The first part will discuss CCPA and how it relates to the financial industry.  The second piece will focus on how little data is needed to identify people as individuals and will focus on two data breaches.  The third part will focus on how companies are approaching data privacy and protection in as the world around us continues to change.


       

Biography


Dawn Michels is the Data Architect for Old Republic Title Insurance.   Dawn was hired to standup a data management competency for Old Republic.  Prior to joining ORT she was the Supervisor & Principal Enterprise Information Architect for the National Marrow Donor Program. Dawn’s career tapestry spans many industries and corporations in the Twin Cities including Target, General Mills, Fair Isaac, Securian, Lifetouch, Regis, Andersen (Windows and Doors), Guidant Corp (now Boston Scientific).  Dawn has spoken at 22 International Conferences on assorted Data Management Topics, using her Toastmaster Silver skills.  She is the current DAMA MN President. Data is her passion as well as her vocation.


Frank Kadwell is co-founder of D3 Information Services. Frank Kadwell is data management specialist with over twenty years of experience in the IT industry. Frank assists companies with many data management challenges including strategy, architecture, and development.  Frank has consulted in many verticals including financial services, retail, manufacturing, and health care.  In addition, Frank has been on the Minnesota DAMA chapter board for three years and joined the DAMA-I board in January of 2019.  Frank is involved with local data meetups and academic organizations.  Frank Kadwell is a PhD candidate with plans to complete his dissertation by December of 2019.     


From the early days of her career, Noelle has understood the importance of data and what it can do to drive value for any organization. She is currently leading the Enterprise Data Governance program at Thrivent Financial, focusing on establishing an ecosystem for data management and a foundation for simple, practical, agile data governance.

 

Prior to Thrivent, Noelle worked in the mortgage industry at GMAC-RFC, working in their Broker Dealer, Structured Finance, Model Governance, and IT divisions. She also worked at the Federal Reserve Bank and Optum fulfilling roles including consultant, business analyst, and project manager. It is through all of these roles that she learned that data is the common thread across all business functions, which truly drove her passion for data.

 

Noelle also uses her passion for leadership to serve on the boards for DAMA MN, Thrivent’s Women’s Leadership Network, and serving as a Governing Body Member for Minneapolis CDO Inner Circle.
